ALEX CONROY || TEXTILES
Alex Conroy’s talent for art and design manifested itself early in life through her bold renderings of her first inspiration, Wonder Woman. Her work was proudly displayed on her parent’s refrigerator in Los Angeles. In later years, Alex pursued her passion with classes in drawing and design at Otis Parsons and an Art History minor at Trinity College. After graduation, Alex moved to New York City and worked for many years in the luxury lifestyle and fashion industries, first at Tiffany & Co. and later at VOGUE and Allure magazines. After moving with her husband from New York City to the San Francisco Bay Area, Alex raised their twin boys and launched a floral design company. Her knack for texture and pattern and love of colour and form eventually led Alex to expand her endeavors to interior design. Alex launched New Leaf Furnishings in 2010 to help clients revitalise their living spaces through custom reupholstery and refinishing. As her business grew, so did Alex’s love for fabric, and she sought out unusual textiles to enhance her clients’ redesign projects. In time, Alex decided to create her own line of fabrics, and Alex Conroy Textiles was born.
Alex is drawn to a wide range of artistic and decorative styles that have made their way into her textile designs, including Indian block-prints, Italian ceramics, and English transferware. “I find inspiration everywhere,” Alex notes, “from the natural landscapes of California’s rolling hills to wrought iron gates, mosaic floors, and painted tiles. When I traveled to India a few years ago, the rich décor and architecture inspired me to think about design in a different way.”
“As a textile designer, I have tried to address the problems I regularly face in working with my clients—lack of compatible textiles and difficulty sourcing solid fabrics that match patterned ones,” Alex says. “I designed a flexible collection that allows clients a broad choice, along with the freedom to mix and match pattern, scale, and colour.” Her collection is available in two distinct colour palettes - bright and pastel - and are printed on both natural and oyster linen. When creating the collection, Alex paid particular attention to sourcing single-colour linens, so that designers need not spend long hours matching solid colours to her patterned fabrics.
Alex Conroy Textiles are hand-drawn and printed to order using eco-friendly, light-fast dyes on the finest Belgian linen. Custom colour requests are welcome. We can match your colour needs with our pattern library to create a textile that is uniquely yours.
