Meet the Maker behind Louise Dean
MEET LOUISE KRUMMEN
There is nothing in this world like the feeling we get when connecting with nature.
Louise Dean Design focuses on creating this feeling through her fabrics and wallpapers, drawing on inspiration from the natural world whether that is moments of hiking in the fresh mountain air looking for wildflowers, or a walk along the beach at sunrise. Louise has been a textile designer since 2008 after graduating from Loughborough University, UK.
She started out designing for a major fashion brand and after five years decided to create her own brand Louise Dean Design in 2013, merging her love for colour, textiles and interior design. Each design is painted from a moment of inspiration and brought into the reality of people’s lives in order to bring joy and be shared with our loved ones.
“Nature doesn’t shy away from incredible colour, and textiles are a wonderful and easy way to add colour at home. My designs are intended to breathe that experience into each of our lives.”
WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN THIS METHODOLOGY?
“Coils and slabs have historically been used in ceramics for support or structure, when a piece is finished and fired, the viewer would not know a coil or slab was used in its production. SIN turns that idea on its head making these components the foundation of the products we design and make.”
Louise Dean Design has a vision to enrich each customer’s life with designs and products that bring the beautiful colours and textures of nature inside, to do so in the most environmentally-conscious ways possible, and help reduce the harms of fast, low-quality, and disposable consumption.
“It’s so fun to see how a design comes to life and brings joy when placed in different situations on a variety of products.”
Louise, like us, is a huge believer in embracing and celebrating the ‘imperfections’ within her designs as it reflects nature’s depth and diversity. Recently she painted a 40-foot mural for a boutique hotel, Bradford House, where each guest is greeted by her design as they come in the front door. The artwork has received such positive reception, even the hotel staff sharing that it evokes a lot of positive energy for guests.
